David Walker has taught in the Health Fitness Specialist program and the Massage program at the Globe University Middleton for three years. An athletic trainer, massage therapist, volleyball coach, personal trainer and veteran, David Walker is a perennial favorite in the classroom and equally popular in the weight room.
David brings a wide variety of skills and talents to his position. He has been a strength coach and a volleyball coach at Madison Area Technical College, he is TRX certified, Kettlebell certified, and, because of his military background, has taught tactical training to SWAT teams and the FBI.
Recently, David has integrated some new experiential learning into his classes and the students are having a blast.
Since January, David has worked with a development volleyball camp of middle- and high-school athletes. The students assist David and get incredible hands-on experience teaching the basics – mobilization, landing mechanics, and evaluating movement patterns. Students learn the importance of preparing the body for exercise and understand that in some cases, weights have to wait.
“I want to coach people to their full potential; not burn them out or over train them with exercises that they aren’t physically prepared to do. In some cases, we make athletes by focussing on these basics. Once they master the basics, we’ll move them into resistance training, suspension training and even jump training. My goal is to increase performance and prevent injuries.”
So far, so good. Every athlete David has worked with has increased their vertical jump by a minimum of two inches. Keep up the great work, coach!
The Health Fitness Specialist degree program is enrolling students for the summer start – July 16th.
More information about David’s camp can be found on his volleyball camp website.
