Onward Search, an Internet Marketing Staffing company, recently published three different salary guides for Internet Marketing jobs in the US. The salary guides, published as infographics, highlight the salary ranges for jobs in three key Internet Marketing areas; PPC, SEO and social media, in the 20 major metro areas where there is the highest demand.
Most would agree that of the three internet marketing areas mentioned above, SEO has been around the longest. As a matter of fact, marketing professionals have been practicing SEO or search engine optimization since before Google.
This internet marketing profession has also seen the greatest amount of change over the years going from what used to be a collection of cheap tricks designed to game search engines into thinking a site was worthy of the top position in the search egnine, to today where earning a top spot on Googles search engine results pages requires a much more sophisticated, customer focused approach.
Also, with these industry changes comes new job descriptions and titles such as; Link Builder, Content/Keyword Strategist and more. See the Onward Search SEO Salary Guide infographic below for more information about what types of SEO jobs are available today and what you can expect to earn.
Pay per click marketing existed well before Google came onto the Internet scene. In the early days, 1996 to be specific, Internet marketers used a website called GOTO.com bid for position in the search engine. This was my first experience in PPC advertising and back then it was a lot more simple as every advertiser could see every other advertisers bid and only had to beat the highest bid for their keyword of choice by one cent.
The challenge with this is you always had to be minding the store because not long after you raised your bid one cent over your competitor, they came back into the market and raised theirs to one penny above yours.
A lot has changed since then and now Google Adwords rules the PPC world. With sophisticated analytics dashboards and bidding strategies, this is no longer an easy internet marketing job and now requires training/education and serious experience to be able to do it well.
This Onward Search PPC Jobs Salary Guide infographic highlights some of the current jobs available in this space and the average pay range in the top 20 cities in the US.
Finally, we have the newest entry into the Internet Marketing arena, Social Media Marketing. The “Big Four” social media channels, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and now Google+ have only been around since 2003 and that was LinkedIn believe it or not, the professional social networking site.
Many changes have occurred since LinkedIn in launched in 2003 including the launch of Facebook in 2004 and Twitter in 2006. As a result, a whole new internet marketing
discipline has evolved, social media marketing.
Seemingly the space of the younger generation, it turns out it takes a balanced approach between the fun, youthful side of social and the more mature side of an experienced business mind to be truly successful.
The Onward Search Social Media Jobs Salary Guide infographic below is a great resource for people looking to get into or advance in their career in social media marketing.
