Criminal Justice Students Tour University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department

Students from the GU- Madison West campus paid a visit to the University of Wisconsin-Police Department in downtown Madison. Central Campus Community Officer Kristin Radtke served as the tour guide as the student organization, Global Justice for All toured their facility learned all about the inner workings of their precinct.

Officer Radtke briefed students on the different divisions held at the station, staff breakdown, and common assignments officers are given. Student were then shown the armory where the officer’s weapons were stored. Next, they viewed the property evidence room where evidence is processed and stored. While in the briefing room, they learned about the importance of communications between officers. Students experienced first-hand the cold isolation in the hard interview rooms where suspects are placed during police interviews. Lastly, they met Georgina, Head Dispatch Officer in the central dispatch room where communication officers monitor and manage various alarms around the university and take 911 emergency calls.

Students greatly enjoyed the tour.
